Position Description:   

 

Sayara is seeking an experienced Graphic Designer to join its busy Communications team. The Graphic Designer will be jointly responsible for visual representation of Sayara’s brand, as well as creating design products for our clients’ programs and projects.  

 

Sayara’s work entails research and communication across a range of sectors/themes, often in fragile, conflict-affected societies around the world. As such, the Communications team is tasked with presenting complex data and nuanced information in engaging, accessible ways. You will develop concepts for designs in different formats, covering a range of sectors/themes, for various global audiences.   

 

The successful candidate will be adept at working independently and able to juggle deadlines and projects. However, they will also be experienced working collaboratively in an open and transparent environment. Sayara welcomes new ideas and creative thinkers. 

 

The Graphic Designer will also contribute to a significant rebranding process across the organization.  

 

The Graphic Designer will work closely with Sayara’s Lead Graphic Designer (based in Colombia) and will report to the Director of Communications (based in the UK). 

 

The Graphic Designer will contribute to the work Sayara does to build positive change in societies that most need it. You will be working as part of a welcoming and diverse international team of experienced professionals.

Responsibilities:  

 

  • Design materials for the organization’s own brand as well as for multiple client programs/projects (NGOs, governments, development partners/donors), working with Sayara’s teams around the world.

     

  • Contribute to Sayara’s brand strategy and ensure the strategy is represented consistently throughout all own-brand marketing materials and other collateral. 

     

  • Support the rebranding process and create branded templates for Sayara and for client materials (using brand guidelines and assets when available).

     

  • Work closely with the Director of Communications, the Lead Graphic Designer, and teams to visually explain complex data findings, through various formats (e.g. graphics, illustrations, graphs/charts, infographics).

     

  • Collaborate and communicate clearly and effectively with teams to progress with materials, share your expertise, and address feedback in a timely manner. 

     

  • Ensure regular communication with Director of Communications and Lead Graphic Designer to assess priorities and ensure appropriate allocation of resources and delivery of quality, timely products. 

     

  • Assist with the presentation of cohesive brand or campaign approaches, including page layout, presentation design, icon creation, and photo editing. 

     

  • Provide artistic input and design ideas for digital materials (reports, presentations, concept notes, leaflets, one-pagers, images for company website, etc.), print materials (same as digital plus pull-up banners, business cards, etc.), and social media products.

     

  • Conduct market/ competitor and other research and analysis to inform initial brainstorming, creative approaches, and development of products. 

     

  • Collaborate with Lead Graphic Designer to share skills, expertise, and ideas. 

     

 

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Undergraduate degree in Fine Arts or related field; or relevant work experience.

     

  • At least 2 years of visual design experience.

     

  • Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, and web limitations.

     

  • Must have the ability to storyboard or translate ideas to team members.

     

  • A demonstrated working knowledge of experience design, brand development, and creative processes.

     

  • Strong knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, in addition to an understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You will be working regularly in Office 365/ SharePoint and using the Office apps.

     

  • Basic illustration skills.

     

  • Print and web design capabilities: must know how to work with both types of media for integrated campaigns.

     

  • Ability to work on multiple projects and deadlines. 

     

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

     

  • Strong English-language written and oral communication skills.

     

  • A team player, who is also self-motivated.

     

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience with International Development, research, or data visualization considered a plus.

     

  • Experience with video editing and/or animation.

     

  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and STATA considered a plus.

     

 

 

Location:

 

There are no specific location requirements for the Graphic Designer role. The Sayara International team has regional hubs, support offices, and additional staff based in many locations around the world. This is a remote position and, preferably, our new colleague will be based in one of the following time zones: UTC, UTC +1, or UTC +2, preferably in Eastern Europe.

Job Type:

 

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), Monday-Friday. Occasionally, overtime may be required.   

 

 

Duration:

 

The Graphic Designer will be offered a one (1) year employment contract, with a four (4) month probation period and the option for renewal, based on the discretion of, and mutual agreement between Sayara and the Graphic Designer.
