Description
Surrounded by a block of houses, its glass dome head and shoulders above its neighbours, the Stock Exchange gives onto four streets in a cross formation. The first exchange was built by Domien de Waghemakere; it soon outgrew the premises, and another building by the same architect was added in 1531. It was a hive of activity during the 16C but was destroyed by a fire in 1858. Rebuilt in 1872 in the same style, the building is currently being converted into a hotel and a public space.
